I clearly remember my time as a student intern at an IP firm. On my desk stood two bottles: one branded, the other almost identical. Why was this allowed—or not? That question immediately fascinated me. Not so much the rule itself, but what lies beneath it: how do you protect something that someone has conceived, created or invented?
I am an attorney-at-law, and I have also spent several years working as in‑house counsel. My general counsel expected concise, sharp analysis. That expectation has stayed with me. Today, I work the same way: clear language, quick assessments, and a strong focus on what the business actually needs. Not just what the law says—but what works in practice.
Many entrepreneurs are unaware of the value embedded in their intellectual property. As a result, opportunities go untapped—even in sectors where you might not immediately expect them, such as agriculture. I enjoy showing clients what is possible.
Litigation can take years. If a product has already evolved by the time proceedings conclude, it is worth asking whether proceedings on the merits still makes sense. I therefore favour a swift and targeted approach. In many cases, summary proceedings leading to an immediate injunction are far more effective than years of drawn‑out court battles.
Alongside my practice, I serve on the board of a nature conservation foundation, a role I took over from my father and greatly appreciate. Outside work, I run, cycle, and swim almost every day. I have completed Ironman triathlons, which demand endurance and smooth transitions—from swimming to cycling to running, without wasting time. My work is no different: It is all about switching quickly and efficiently.
