As a specialist in administrative law, I have been working in cases involving the government, often as the opposing party, since 2005. My expertise includes spatial plans, permits and issues related to general environmental law and nature, such as soil pollution.
Administrative law has unique dynamics because the government is always involved as a party. This requires a different attitude from a lawyer than in a civil case. With my knowledge of how government organizations work, I know how to deal and negotiate with the government to achieve the maximum result for my clients.
I have worked at the Council of State, the highest court in the field of environmental law. For that reason, I know which arguments are most convincing in court and at the Council of State. And how municipal decisions, such as zoning plans, can be made Council of State-proof.
I also have extensive experience in advising on and litigating against decisions made by government bodies, such as ministries, provinces, municipalities (including those in the big cities), the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
Because I’ve sat on both sides of the table, I know the nuances of the legal process well.
I relax by running. I also deploy my perseverance and stamina in my work. I maintain a sustainable pace, preferring to take my time in determining the best strategy.
